The Simple Mental Trick To Get You Through Any Challenge

When I think back to the hardest times of my life, I remember wondering, How am I going to get through this? When will things get better?  In those moments, I felt so low that I couldn’t imagine moving past the pain.

But I picked myself back up and kept moving forward. One day at a time. One step at a time.

“Whenever you find yourself doubting how far you can go, just remember how far you have come. Remember everything you have faced, all the battles you have won, and all the fears you have overcome.” – Unknown

It’s very empowering l to think about life from this perspective. Think back to the last challenge you faced – whether it was a breakup, losing a job, financial stress, etc. – and remember how weak you felt in that moment. Now, compare it to how you feel today. Chances are it was a blessing in disguise. You’re happy that relationship ended because now you are with someone who is a better match. You’re grateful you lost that job because now you are pursuing your passion in a career you love.

It’s not easy, but through all the hardships, you’ll discovered an inner strength you didn’t know you had. It’s amazing how you don’t know what you’re truly capable of until you’re tested. It’s only when you can transcend these periods of crisis that you become stronger and develop the resilience you need to overcome the next obstacle that comes your way.

The next time you have a weak moment and start to doubt yourself, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  1. Look for the lesson

Life’s disappointments don’t have to derail us. When our expectations aren’t met, when we feel frustrated and disillusioned, that’s the time when we must move forward and not allow ourselves to get stuck. It’s through our failures, not our successes, that we learn the most about ourselves. So stop taking failure personally, and start to see life’s setbacks as part of the learning process.

  1. Let go of expectations and accept reality for the way it is

When it comes to expectations, the best strategy is not to expect anything. If you knew how everything was going to turn out, where’s the fun in that?

Work with what life offers rather than compulsively trying to control it. The ability to be embrace the present is a key component of mental strength.

  1. Make a gratitude list

What are you grateful for? Try to ask yourself this question every morning when you wake up. Every day write down something new. Reflect on what you have verses what you don’t have. Where you are in your life versus where you’re not.

According to a new brain imaging study, “Practicing gratitude seems to kick off a healthful, self-perpetuating cycle in your brain—counting your blessings now makes it easier to notice and count them later. And the more good you see in your life, the happier and more successful you’re likely to be,”

When you choose to see abundance, more good will naturally start coming into your life. By staying positive and focused on what you really want, you will be able to overcome the fear and self-doubt that prevents you from reaching your full potential and living the life you want.
