Located in the center of the hotel zone on the breathtaking Caribbean coastline, Sandos Cancun provides the ultimate luxury escape. Well-known for their wellness program, I was excited to try out everything their Well Fit Experience had to offer.
Maybe it’s just me, but the ideal vacation is a mix of relaxation and adventure. Traveling provides the opportunity to be spontaneous and see and do new things while also taking a step back to refresh and recharge. And this trip did exactly that.
The resort is on the smaller side so you’ll enjoy a more intimate experience, getting to know staff members and fellow guests on a first-name basis. When I arrived, it was a rainy day so I decided to have a massage at the spa. I tried the Sandos Special massage, which included four different techniques: deep tissue, therapeutic, hot stones and reflexology. After traveling all day, spending 80 minutes on a massage table definitely put me in a relaxed headspace.
On the first day I explored the hotel, admiring the three infinity pools bordered by different restaurants with their own unique cuisine and charm. Whether you’re in the mood for French, Japanese, Italian or Mexican, there’s something for everyone. I spent most my stay eating at Zango, which offered a wide variety of meals ranging from tasty breakfast buffets to international à la carte theme nights for dinner. During the day, I ate lunch and snacks at the poolside St. Trop restaurant, which had a stunning beachfront view.
For my first full day, I decided to try an excursion organized by Sandos – a Cenotes tour where I visited four different cenotes paired with activities for each – rappelling, ziplining, kayaking, cliff jumping and swimming.
Cenotes are natural pools of water in the middle of the jungle, which formed millions of years ago and are the gateway to the longest underground river systems in the world. When I swam through each cenote, I was amazed at how fresh and clear the water was – as if it was untouched. While I was swimming and floating through the water there, I took a million mental snapshots because I knew I never wanted to forget it. Being in the middle of the jungle and so connected to nature was an unforgettable experience. When I arrived back at the hotel, I felt like I was emotionally cleansed without a care in the world.
Visiting Isla Mujeres was also on my bucket list, so on Day 2 I navigated public transportation and made my way there. When I first stepped on to the streets, I noticed all the golf carts and Vespas (the main mode of transportation there). With so many shops to choose from, I did almost all of my souvenir shopping there while also practicing some of my Spanish (no, I’m not fluent, but I can definitely hold my own). For anyone who hasn’t visited Mexico, Isla Mujeres is a must-see: the color of the water is unlike anything I’ve ever seen!
On the third day, I was able to enjoy more of the #WellFitExperience! I played a few volleyball games, did some pool aerobics, and water activities – parasailing and jet skiing. I did my best to take it all in because I was so in the moment and enjoying myself that I wasn’t in journalist mode at all, but just so happy and present.
The overall service at Sandos Cancun is a mix of friendly and formal, so whether you are in the mood for live music by the pool or dinner entertainment, the hotel amenities do not disappoint.
