Wellness Week at the Rockaway Hotel

When many of us daydream about a getaway, the first thought that comes to mind is likely lounging on a beach feeling the sand beneath your feet, warmth of the sun and refreshing ocean breeze. The Rockaway Hotel and Spa brings that dream to life, capturing the laid-back essence of coastal living.

Stepping into the lobby, I was immediately captivated by the interior design and artwork. Upon closer inspection, I realized the collection is from local artists and designers, exemplifying the hotel’s strong community values.

Standing at six stories high, the hotel offers a stunning panoramic view of New York. Whether you want to see the ocean or the Manhattan skyline and Brooklyn Bridge, you can see it all from this location.

Since I stayed during Wellness Week, I was also able to enjoy fitness classes, spa services and a customized nutritious dining menu.

The Room

Scandinavian design at its finest: a 1950s minimalist style using a blend of textures and soft neutral tones, which made the décor feel warm and inviting. Creating the right atmosphere is all in the details and this space certainly defined retro beach chic, from the teak wall panels to the wicker chairs and geometric pillow patterns.

But the biggest draw was the terrace with an ocean view. Before unpacking, I walked outside and took it all in – the best of both worlds, a neighborhood vibe with a seascape in the distance.

Yoga classes

For me, yoga is just as much of a mental recharge as a physical one. My evening class was hosted by Y7 Studio – my first yoga by candlelight experience! Being in such a relaxing setting with the candles and music took the experience to the next level.

My morning class was an intense Vinyasa flow, led by Di Salvador. She was very engaged throughout the class helping us with form and motivating us to keep going and push through the challenging poses. To end the class, Di gave us peppermint essential oil to rub between our hands and inhale. Peppermint is well-known for pain relief and reducing stress.

Spa

When it comes to skincare, hydration is everything. I tried the Aloe and CBD facial – inspired by the coastline of Rockaway Beach, this facial showcases the healing benefits of marine extracts, seaweed, full-spectrum CBD, water lily, and aloe vera. Shoutout to my aesthetician who truly went above and beyond! She was not only thorough with explaining each step of the treatment, but also provided additional tips to keep my complexion glowing moving forward.

Dining

Margie’s, a restaurant in the hotel, curated a special menu just for wellness week. The Executive Chef collaborated with a Harley Street nutritionist to create a menu incorporating superfoods packed with antioxidants and healing properties to promote well-being.

Although I had a tough time deciding what to choose from the menu (since everything sounded delicious), as a seafood lover, I decided to go with the Miso Glazed Atlantic Salmon. Filled with omega-3 fatty acids, salmon is known for its brain-boosting benefits. High in protein, salmon also keeps hunger at bay – an energizing meal that’s ideal for those watching their weight. As an added bonus, research shows the healthy fats in salmon promote heart health by lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

And yes, the meal was fantastic – compliments to the chef!

Thank you Rockaway Hotel for such a memorable experience! Can’t wait to visit again soon.
